Organic Nutrition and Taking Care Of Those You Love

It wasn’t that long ago that if you were looking for food that was organic, you’d have to go on quite the quest to find it.  Grocery stores that once had only a handful of organic foods, or just one shelf dedicated to natural products, are now offering organic food in abundance.  Even conventional grocers have lined up by the thousands to cater to their more demanding audience who care about what they put into their body.

But, of course despite the obvious trend in popularity and the growing fan base who prefer to eat organic food - - just in 2006 American consumers spent more than $15 billion dollars to support the cause - - there are still skeptics among us who believe buying organic makes no difference.  Much of the majority who buy into such thinking are a more mature consumer who avidly remembers when organic farming wasn’t even an option, and arguing that “they turned out just fine”.

Well, yes and no.  If one objectively examined the baby-boomer generation, would they find most people healthy or sick?  That is a fair question indeed.

What’s most baffling of those who argue against buying organic and supporting the American organic farmers, is that they are usually aware of the dangers of conventional farming.  The use of chemicals being sprayed, coated upon, and absorbed into the ground in which the fruits and vegetables that will soon be consumed by humans are grown.  Both in conventional farming of yesteryear and today’s modern farming, it’s no secret we use chemicals and pesticides in mass to control weeds, vegetation disease, and bugs.

It is known fact that the foods farmed this way may have trace, remnant quantities of said chemicals and pesticides on the produce shipped and sold from groceries all across the country.  There is however, no overwhelming evidence that such trace amounts are a health risk.

However, here’s the complete contradiction, which one would think would be the obvious argument.  The use of pesticides and chemicals used in traditional (non-organic) farming is even if on the most broad, forgiving terms, carcinogenic (capable of causing cancer), as well as a long string of related diseases, brain damage, and abnormalities in men, women, the old, the young, all.

Science has preliminary research that has been suggesting that a pregnant woman who consumes said carcinogenic ingredients can pass them to her baby via the placenta, just the same as women who smoke, drink alcohol or take prescription and / or “recreational” drugs can cause their baby to have birth defects, be premature, and have developmental risks.

No matter your age, education level, or wisdom, most people know that cancer is bad.  And yet, there are still people today who, despite knowing such blatantly obvious information, continue to participate in both activities and the consumption of ingredients that have either the possibility (trace or not) or the flagrantly factual connection to cancer causing components.  Isn’t the choice obvious?
